The CDI3* Grand Prix in Lier was won by no-one less than Adelinde Cornelissen (Aqiedo). Her score was just marginally higher than that of the Belgian Olympian Jorinde Verwimp with her top horse Tiamo.  Both riders scored over 73%.  Marieke Van Der Putten, for the Netherlands,  came third on Ambria. Laurence Roos (Fil Rouge) and Katrien Verreet (Galliano Biolley) were placed seventh and eighth for Belgium.

So too yesterday, Jorinde Verwimp came second in the Prix St. Georges, this time with the horse Arie Sollenburg. Isabel Cool (Constand) came fourth. In the junior tests we also saw many scores close to each other for Suraya Hendrikx, Emily Anthonissen and Laura Luyten.

The first day of CDI Lier closed with the CDI3* Small Tour. There were no fewer than 29 starters in the Prix St Georges and it got rather late.  This ‘Fam. Siegward and S. Tesch Prize’ finally finished around 22h30.

It was the Swedish Marina Mattsson who kept the victory of this last class too out of Belgian hands. Riding the chestnut Quartermain (by Quarterback) she was very quickly leading the class with a total score of 72.053%. She held on to this position until the end.

Jorinde Verwimp, who performed well in Ghent last weekend, competed Arie Sollenburg for the fist time in the Small Tour at international level. We can immediately say that it was a good debut.  She received a total score of 70.237%  from the judge for her test on the black Olivi offspring, resulting in a second place for the combination. The German Andrea Timpe completed the top three with For The Memory (by Florencio I). This combination was awarded a total score of 70.211%.

Isabel Cool finished in fourth place with the ten-year-old Coolhorses Constand (by Vic), just ahead of the Dutch combination Ilse Van Cranenbroek with Emerald S. They were awarded scores of 70.000% and 69.947% respectively.

The second class in the international dressage competition at Azelhof in Lier has now been ridden. That was the Young Riders team test. Seventeen combinations competed in this ‘Prijs Lannoo’.

Once again, it was a German victory. Alexa Westendarp received a total score of 71.842% for her test with the ten-year-old gelding Der Prinz 4 (bij Diamond Hit). Last year this combination won three times at junior-level at CDI Lier. Second place went to Dutch rider Thalia Rockx. She rode the KWPN Verdi De La Tazenda (by Florett As). They scored a total score of 71.140%. Her compatriot Esmee Donkers completed the top three with the Sir Donnerhal offspring Chaina. They scored a total of 70.702%

Also in the top five was Rebecca Jane Edwards with Ufano (by Ideciso) and Ann Kristin Arnold with Rio De Janeiro 21 (by Riccione). They scored 69.123% and 68.860% respectively.

The best Belgian score came from Delphine Beck. With Zelion B (by Farrington) she rode to a total score of 66.360% thereby finishing in 10^th place.

This coming weekend Azelhof in Lier will be entirely dedicated to international dressage.  From March second to March fifth the jumps will be set aside and a dressage arena will be set out in Belgium’s largest indoor arena. The programme includes classes at three-star level as well as classes for young people. Ponies, juniors, young riders and U25 will all be given the chance to compete.

In the three-star competition a number of top names are competing. For our country the Olympic combination Jorinde Verwimp and Tiamo as well as Belgian Champion Jeroen Devroe with Eres DL are taking part. Laurence Roos, the successful U25-rider who recently made the move to seniors, will also compete with Fil Rouge.

CDI Lier is also attracting attention abroad as several well-known foreign names will be competing.  French rider Marie Emilie Bretenoux will bring her Quartz of Jazz to Azelhof. Our northerly neighbours are also sending a whole delegation. We will see Adelinde Cornelissen at work in the Big Tour with Aqiedo. Marieke van der Putten is also coming to Lier with Ambria.

 

The youth competition will also be very interesting, with top combinations from Belgium and abroad.

The last two years Azelhof in Lier was the home base for the international CDI3* Lier. This year the organisation has been taken over by Mike Hazebroek and dressage legend, Wim Verwimp.

From 2^nd to 6^th March international riders from our own country, such as Jorinde Verwimp, will compete against an international top line-up.  Madeleine Witte-Vrees and Adelinde Cornelissen from the Netherlands, for example, have already confirmed their participation.

Top riders as well as young riders will be given the necessary attention in the packed programme of this CDI-competiton.
